During the Spring of 2020, our professors conducted a two-week mock competition with a client to teach our studio how to interview and interact with a client, quickly develop an idea, and persuasively pitch that idea within two minutes. The client was Community Life, one of the offices at our university in charge of hosting on events for the student body, ranging from hundreds to thousands of attendants. The Community KIT, designed by my partner and I, received third place in the competition.

The Community KIT (Kinetic, Intuitive Technology) preserves the same iconic form representing and building community with a different physical experience through events over the years. This KIT has versatility and flexibility with multiple configurations for events from various attendant levels. This allows the interns of Community Life to personalize each event easily. It provides an intriguing, elegant shape, harnessing community with its curved arms.
Beyond aesthetic and conceptual features, the KIT also provides practicality with versatile, intuitive set up and tear down. Each of the curves and slats fit inside the core of the stage ensuring convenient transportation. Two sizes of curves are offered as well as slats with adjustable arms by a DC motor. Lighting and sound systems are also integrated within the slats, solving the issues of unavailable power lines and complicated set-up. The stage includes 5 pieces that devise various configurations of the stage and even offer seating if desired. Also, tarps are provided for means of weather protection.
